abstract the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation from stem bark of croton oligandrum pierre ex hutch was analyzed by gc and gc/ms. sixty-three components, which represented 98.5% of the total constituents of the oil were identified. the major constituents found were 1-octen-3-ol (2.6%), -pinene (5.1%), 1,8-cineole (6.7%) linalool (53.5%), terpinen-4-ol (2.8%), -terpineol (3.6%), -caryophyllene (3.1%), caryophyllene oxide (1.2 %), guaiol (1.9%), -eudesmol (1.1%) and benzyl benzoate (2.7%). the oil extracts did not reveal any important antioxidant or antiradical activities.
