abstract the essential oils obtained from the dried leaves and flowers of phlomis herba-venti l. subsp. pungens (willd.) maire ex de fillipps and subsp. lenkoranica (knorring) rech. f. (labiatae) were analyzed using gc and gc/ms. twenty-four components were identified in the leaf oil of subsp. pungens with germacrene d (31.1%), t-muurolol (11%) and -pinene (7.1%) as main constituents. twenty-six compounds were identified in the flower oil of subsp. pungens with germacrene d (39.2%), -pinene (9.3%) and 2-pentadecanone (7.6%) as main components. twenty-nine compounds were characterized in the leaf oil of subsp. lenkoranica with germacrene d (45.9%), -pinene (10%) and -copaene (3.2%) as main components. in the flower oil of subsp. lenkoranica, however, the major components among the 25 constituents identified were germacrene d (36.6%), - pinene (21.3%) and -bourbonene (5.9%). all oils consisted of monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes and aliphatic compounds. key word index: phlomis herba-venti subsp. pungens phlomis herba-venti subsp. lenkoranica labiataeessential oil compositiongermacrene dt-muurolol-pinene
