Abstract
abstract the composition of essential oils obtained from satureja horvatii subsp. macrophylla by hydrodistillation and micro-simultaneous distillation/extraction (sde) were analyzed using gc and gc/ms for the first time. thirty-nine constituents were found with percentage compositions >0.1% in both essential oils isolated. the major oil constituents were thymol (46.1-46.7%), p-cymene (14.3-15.5%) and -terpinene (7.1-8.2%). there were no major differences in the oil composition for constituents composing >0.8% between the two methods of oil isolation indicating that sde is a suitable isolation procedure when small amounts of plant material are available. key word index: satureja horvatii subsp. macrophylla labiataeessential oil compositionmicro-simultaneous distillation/extractionthymolp-cymene
